This medication helps control blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes by using Teneligliptin and Metformin together. It is effective in improving blood glucose levels in conjunction with dietary and exercise regimens. This supports patients in managing their blood glucose levels more reliably. Such treatment plays a vital role in diabetes management, hence regular use is necessary. As a result, this medication is used to enhance blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

The usual adult dosage for this medication is once daily in the evening with meals. The 20/1000 mg extended-release tablet is taken as 1 tablet once daily. For the 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release tablets, 2 tablets should be taken simultaneously once daily. The initial dosage is based on Teneligliptin 20 mg once daily and the existing dose of Metformin. The maximum recommended daily dose is Teneligliptin 20 mg and extended-release Metformin 2000 mg.

Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and is a combination of two components. First, this medication should not be administered to patients with reduced kidney function, especially in cases where kidney function is moderately impaired or worse. Second, it should also be avoided in patients with severely reduced heart function or those with acute heart disease or severe infections. Third, patients who are scheduled to undergo tests using iodine-based radiocontrast agents should discontinue the medication 48 hours prior to the test and should only resume after confirming normal kidney function post-test. Fourth, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. Fifth, this medication may cause hypoglycemia; therefore, caution should be exercised for symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications. Sixth, if severe abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, breathing difficulties, fever, skin rash, or other abnormal symptoms occur during treatment, immediate medical consultation is required. Seventh, patients with liver dysfunction or those who excessively consume alcohol should avoid this medication, and if signs of liver dysfunction are present, the medication should be discontinued. Eighth, elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and dosing should be adjusted accordingly. Ninth, this medication can lower vitamin B12 levels; hence, patients taking this medication over long periods are recommended to have regular blood tests to monitor vitamin B12 status. Finally, this medication has not established safety and efficacy in children, so it is advisable not to use it.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, shortness of breath, cold sweats, pallor, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, peeling of skin, pain in the mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attacks, respiratory issues with cough + fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme fatigue, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination issues.
