Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps to control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes by combining teneligliptin and metformin. It is suitable for patients following diet and exercise therapy, and is used to enhance the effectiveness of blood glucose management and improve diabetes symptoms.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal, taking one tablet daily. For those taking 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained-release tablets, they should take two tablets simultaneously once daily. The initial dose should provide teneligliptin 20 mg once daily and the existing dosage of metformin, with the maximum recommended dose being teneligliptin 20 mg and sustained-release metformin 2000 mg.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and should not be administered to patients with poor kidney function. It should be avoided particularly in cases of severe renal impairment, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or sepsis. Before tests involving radiographic iodine contrast agents, this medication should be discontinued at least 48 hours beforehand, and reinitiated only after confirming normal kidney function. It is safest not to use this medication in pregnant women or those who may become pregnant. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so caution is especially required when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas. Additionally, patients with acute pancreatitis or liver function impairment should also exercise caution when taking this medication. Should any serious symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, shortness of breath, or weakness occur during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function and should have regular kidney function tests, adjusting the dose if necessary. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it's best to avoid drinking during treatment. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so regular blood tests should be conducted and supplementation provided if needed. Patients must be fully aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to respond, and should take immediate appropriate measures should symptoms arise. In cases where oral intake is difficult due to surgery, severe infection, or trauma, this medication should be temporarily suspended and resumed only once the patient’s condition has improved. This medication is not used in children due to lack of established safety and efficacy. In case of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought, and dialysis may be required if kidney function is compromised. It is important to store this medication out of the reach of children and not transfer it to another container.
