How to take

Adult dose

This medication is usually taken once daily with the evening meal. The extended-release 20/1000 mg formulation is typically dosed at one tablet once daily. Patients taking the 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release formulations should take two tablets at once once daily. Precautions

This medication helps regulate blood glucose. However, it may very rarely cause a serious condition known as lactic acidosis; if symptoms occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. Additionally, caution is advised as hypoglycemia may occur when used with insulin or other diabetes medications. Patients with moderately decreased kidney function, heart failure, liver dysfunction, or those in acute infection or severe trauma should not take this medication. This drug should be temporarily discontinued before and after tests using contrast agents, and can be resumed once kidney function is confirmed to be normal post-exam. It is safer for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant not to take this medication. During treatment, one should be well aware of hypoglycemic symptoms and consume sugars or consult a doctor immediately if symptoms occur. This medication can affect liver and kidney functions, so regular blood and kidney function tests should be conducted. Excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis; therefore, it is advisable to avoid it. Elderly patients may experience decreased kidney function, requiring dosage adjustments and monitoring of renal function. In cases of surgery or severe illness, medication may need to be temporarily halted; consult with healthcare professionals. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are currently taking. Finally, safety in children and adolescents has not been established, so use this medication with caution in these populations.
