Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication, those with severe liver and kidney impairment, epilepsy patients, those with acute glaucoma, severe myasthenia gravis, and patients taking MAO inhibitors should not take it. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so individuals with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, and glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Various side effects may occur when taking this medication. For instance, chest pain, changes in blood pressure, cardiac issues may arise, along with neurological symptoms like drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, and anxiety. It can also affect the eyes and ears, causing tinnitus, sore throat, eye redness, itching, and photophobia. Rarely, abnormalities in milk secretion or thyroid function might occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms like abdominal bloating, changes in appetite, and nausea may appear, while urogenital issues may include urination problems, menstrual irregularities, or changes in libido. Musculoskeletal symptoms such as myalgia or arthralgia may be experienced, and rarely, myasthenia gravis may appear. Respiratory effects like hyperventilation or pulmonary congestion have been reported. Dermatological reactions may include swelling, itching, flushing, and dry skin, and liver function tests may show transient increases. Hematological issues like leukopenia or thrombocytopenia may occur rarely. In very rare cases, a serious symptom called neuroleptic malignant syndrome can appear, which is accompanied by muscle rigidity, high fever, altered consciousness, and requires immediate treatment. This medication is not yet definitively recognized as an antipsychotic and should not be used for the treatment of psychosis. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery while taking this medication. Patients with sedative or hypnotic dependence may find that this medication does not alleviate withdrawal symptoms from existing drugs, thus requiring a gradual reduction of those medications. Moreover, this medication may affect dopamine receptors in the central nervous system, leading to restlessness or movement disorders in some patients. Caution is needed when taken with other psychotropic medications, and it is not recommended to take it with alcohol. Particularly, combining it with MAO inhibitors carries an increased risk of elevated blood pressure, so they should never be taken together. Women who are pregnant or might become pregnant should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it is also recommended to avoid use while breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy in children under 18 years old have not been established, so it is preferable not to use it in this population. In case of an overdose, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and drowsiness may occur; however, there is no specific antidote, and immediate medical treatment should be sought. Finally, while taking this medication, it is crucial to inform healthcare professionals about any medications currently being taken, alcohol consumption, pregnancy status, or breastfeeding, particularly for patients with a history of substance dependence or abuse, who require closer monitoring and evaluation.
