Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medicine is used together with dietary and exercise therapy to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered to patients who have not previously received medication for diabetes or when blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy. This medicine can be used when monotherapy with Metformin or Sitagliptin is insufficient or when substituting combination therapy with both drugs. Furthermore, if blood sugar control is difficult with combination therapy of Metformin and sulfonylureas or Metformin and thiazolidinediones, this medicine is administered in combination. It can also be used in combination with insulin and Metformin if the effect is insufficient. It is flexible to use with various therapeutic combinations, effectively improving blood sugar control.
This medicine is generally taken twice daily with meals, gradually increasing the dosage to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. Patients who are not currently being treated with metformin: - Take the initial dose of this medicine 50/500 mg twice daily, one tablet at a time, - It can be increased to 50/1000 mg twice daily, one tablet each time. 2. Patients on metformin:
This medicine contains both sitagliptin and metformin, which help control blood sugar. Firstly, during the use of this medicine, there may be serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as rash, itching, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, you should immediately stop taking the medicine and consult a healthcare professional. Additionally, acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may occur rarely, so if you experience severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite, you should notify your doctor immediately. The metformin component included in this medicine can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is a dangerous situation where lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body. Symptoms of lactic acidosis may include severe fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and confusion, and if these symptoms occur, you should visit the hospital immediately. Patients with significantly impaired kidney function, dehydration, severe infections, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction should not take this medicine. If contrast agents are used during radiological examinations, they may affect kidney function, so this medicine should be stopped before and after the examination, and can only be resumed once kidney function is confirmed to be normal. It is safest for women who are pregnant or potentially pregnant and nursing mothers to avoid using this medicine. If you have irregular meals or insufficient food intake, engage in strenuous exercise, or take other medications, the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may increase, so caution is advised. While taking this medicine, it is advisable to have regular kidney function and blood tests, and also to check vitamin B12 levels. Additionally, when used with other blood glucose-lowering agents, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, so it is essential to be aware of hypoglycemia symptoms and be prepared. If you need to undergo surgery, stop taking this medicine 48 hours before the surgery, and resume after the oral intake returns to normal and kidney function is confirmed following the surgery. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects of this medicine, so it is advisable to avoid drinking while on medication. Finally, if you experience any unusual symptoms or discomfort while taking this medicine, it is crucial to consult healthcare professionals for appropriate action.
