Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used as an adjunct to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It should be administered alongside dietary management and exercise therapy, and is effective for patients who have not previously experienced diabetes drug therapy and have difficulty achieving blood sugar control with monotherapy. Additionally, it can be used as a substitute or in combination when adequate blood sugar control is not achieved with either metformin or sitagliptin as monotherapy. This medication can also be added to improve treatment effectiveness in cases where blood sugar control is insufficient with metformin and sulfonylurea, or combination therapy with metformin and thiazolidinedione. Furthermore, using this drug alongside insulin and metformin when blood sugar control is challenging can be beneficial. In summary, this medication improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients when used alone or in combination with various therapies.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage should be gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. 1. For patients not treated with metformin: The initial dose is 1 tablet (50/500 mg) taken twice daily, and if necessary, it can be increased to 1 tablet (50/1000 mg) taken twice daily. 2. For patients currently being treated with metformin: Sitagliptin and metformin doses should be adjusted based on the patient's previous treatment and effectiveness.
This medication contains two active ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin, and is primarily used for blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. First, serious allergic reactions can occur during treatment with this medication; therefore, if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or throat occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Second, there is a risk of pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, so if severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occurs, medical personnel should be notified immediately. Third, the metformin component can, albeit rarely, cause a serious metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis. If sudden breathing difficulties, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, treatment should be discontinued immediately, and the patient should go to the hospital. Fourth, it is not safe for patients with impaired renal function, acute heart disease, severe infections, dehydration, liver dysfunction, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding to take this medication. Fifth, if a surgical procedure is scheduled or if an examination involving radioactive iodine contrast is to be performed, the medication should be discontinued for a period before and after the examination, and it should only be resumed after confirming normal renal function. Sixth, this medication can cause hypoglycemia; therefore, patients should carefully monitor their blood sugar levels if meal quantities are irregular or inadequate, if they engage in rigorous exercise, or if they are taking other antidiabetic drugs. Seventh, while taking this medication, regular checks of kidney function and blood tests should be performed, and vitamin B12 levels should also be monitored periodically. Eighth, concurrent use of this medication with alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so avoiding alcohol consumption is advised. Ninth, during treatment with this medication, if there are occurrences of blisters, severe skin rashes, or severe joint pain, patients should immediately inform medical personnel, and medication should be discontinued if needed. Finally, for elderly patients, it is essential to closely monitor renal function and to start at the minimum effective dosage while gradually adjusting as necessary.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Store this medication in a tightly sealed container to prevent air or moisture. It is recommended to keep the storage temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
