Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used when the patient has not previously received diabetes medication treatment or when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy. It is also administered when improvement is difficult with either metformin or sitagliptin monotherapy or when switching from a combination therapy of both medications. It is used in cases where blood sugar is poorly controlled with metformin and sulfonylurea, in combination with sulfonylurea. Similarly, if there is no effect from metformin and thiazolidinedione or from insulin and metformin combination therapies, this medication is added to improve blood sugar control. Therefore, this medication is used effectively to control blood sugar in various treatment situations.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and doses should be gradually increased to minimize gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. 1. For patients who are not currently being treated with metformin: - Start with a dose of 50/500 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time. - Can increase to 50/1000 mg, taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time. 2. For patients currently being treated with metformin:
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, used for diabetes treatment. When taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips appear, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, may occur, so pay close attention to symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and severe abdominal discomfort and inform medical personnel immediately if symptoms occur. The metformin contained in this medication can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic disorder, in patients with decreased kidney function, so kidney function should be periodically checked and it should not be taken if kidney function is impaired. Particularly in cases of dehydration, severe infection, heart disease, before and after surgery, liver dysfunction, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, this medication should not be used or should be used with caution. Additionally, irregular meals, excessive exercise, and interactions with other medications can lead to hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be monitored closely. During the use of this medication, side effects such as diarrhea, headache, upper respiratory infection, and hypoglycemia symptoms should be managed promptly. Drinking alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so alcoholic beverages should be avoided during treatment. Discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after confirming that kidney function is normal post-surgery. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not take this medication, and safety has not been established for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients are at higher risk of decreased kidney function, so regular kidney function tests are necessary and maintaining doses below the maximum dose is advisable. In case of overdose, immediate treatment at a medical institution is required, and if necessary, blood dialysis may be used to eliminate the drug. It is important to have regular blood tests and kidney function tests during treatment, and to consult a doctor immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur.
