Precautions

This drug contains sitagliptin and metformin, and is used in the treatment of diabetes. First, while taking this medicine, severe allergic reactions may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rashes, difficulty in breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. Additionally, serious side effects such as pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported, so if sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occurs, it is vital to visit a medical institution immediately. There is a rare but life-threatening condition known as lactic acidosis that may occur while taking this medicine, so symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, dyspnea, or abdominal pain should be monitored closely. Patients with reduced kidney function or conditions such as severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction should not take this medicine. Also, if surgery is planned, the medicine should be discontinued for a certain period. It is safer for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as those who are nursing, to avoid taking this medication. During treatment, symptoms of hypoglycemia, or excessively low blood sugar, may occur; thus, if dizziness, cold sweat, headache, or severe fatigue develops, immediate intake of sugar is necessary, and a consultation with a doctor should follow. Moreover, because this drug can interact with other medications, it is crucial to inform healthcare providers of any medications being taken, and regular kidney function and blood tests should be performed. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol while on this medication. Lastly, if severe joint pain or skin blistering occurs during treatment, you should consult your healthcare provider immediately.
