  • Difficulty controlling blood sugar
View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes. It may be administered, especially when previous diabetes medication treatment has not been received, or when blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy of Metformin or Sitagliptin. Furthermore, it can be combined with other medications such as Metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, and insulin when adequate blood sugar control is not achieved. This medication effectively lowers blood sugar and aids in diabetes management, improving blood sugar control.

Patients not currently treated with Metformin: This medication 50/500 mg is taken twice daily at 1 tablet at a time, and may be increased to 50/1000 mg taken twice daily at 1 tablet at a time. 2. Precautions

This medication may cause severe allergic reactions; if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or tongue appear within three months after administration, usage should be immediately discontinued and medical advice should be sought. It can induce serious pancreatic inflammation known as pancreatitis; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever occur, discontinue use immediately and inform healthcare professionals. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute heart failure, serious infections, dehydration, or severe liver dysfunction should not use this medication. It is not safe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and the safety in pediatric patients under 18 years old has not been established. During treatment, kidney function should be regularly monitored to detect deterioration early and take appropriate measures. Excessive alcohol consumption may result in lactic acidosis, a dangerous condition occurring alongside this medication, so alcohol should be avoided while taking it. Patients undergoing surgery should stop taking this medication 48 hours before the procedure and resume only after checking that kidney function is normal post-surgery. This medication lowers blood sugar, thus when used with other blood sugar-lowering agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase; careful monitoring of blood sugar levels is essential. Particularly in elderly patients, malnourished individuals, or patients engaging in strenuous exercise, the risk of hypoglycemia is higher, necessitating caution. Patients taking this medication may experience gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain; if these symptoms are severe, medical consultation is advised. If a rash, severe joint pain, or bullous dermatosis occurs during treatment, immediate medical attention is required. Additionally, this medication may interact with certain drugs, so patients taking other medications should inform their healthcare providers. In case of overdose, immediate medical assistance should be sought, and blood dialysis may be necessary, thus prompt action is important.
