View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone for patients who are starting diabetes medication for the first time or when blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy of metformin or sitagliptin. It can also be used in combination with existing metformin and sulfonylurea therapy or metformin and thiazolidinedione therapy when blood sugar control is insufficient. If blood sugar control remains difficult even with insulin and metformin combination therapy, this drug can be used to improve blood sugar control. Thus, it is actively used as an adjunct to dietary and exercise therapy to help manage blood sugar.
