Prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency, capillary hemorrhage, and promotion of bone healing
This medication is effective for the prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency, particularly in diseases such as scurvy. It is also used when the demand for vitamin C increases in pregnant or breastfeeding women and those engaged in heavy physical labor. Additionally, it helps with capillary hemorrhage, metabolic disorders due to drug administration, the formation of bone matrix and promotion of bone healing during fractures. In relation to skin disorders, it is also used to improve melasma, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photosensitive dermatitis. Overall, it is an effective medication for alleviating symptoms of vitamin C deficiency and related metabolic disorders.
As ascorbic acid, administer 50 to 1,000 mg per day divided into 1 to several injections subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously. Adjust dosage according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used by patients with allergic reactions to this drug or any of its components. It should also be avoided in patients with conditions such as oxalate nephropathy, Mediterranean anemia, gout, and cystinuria. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency should be cautious with high doses due to the risk of red blood cell destruction. Patients with a history of oxalate kidney stones should not exceed 1 gram per day. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal cramps, fatigue, facial flushing, headache, and insomnia may occur with this medication. Particularly, taking more than 1 gram per day may increase the risk of diarrhea or kidney stones, so caution is advised. Doses above 600 milligrams may lead to diuretic effects. This medication can cause crystal formation in the urinary tract with overdosing, so it is important to maintain appropriate dosage. When used as an injection, there may be temporary pain at the injection site, and it is advisable to rotate injection sites. During pregnancy, the impact on the fetus is not fully known, so it should only be administered when absolutely necessary, and high doses should be avoided. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is needed when taking it with aspirin, alcohol, iron supplements, and some antibiotics. Moreover, this drug may affect some clinical test results, so it should be disclosed to the physician before tests. Overdosing can result in diarrhea or kidney stones, so if symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight and in a dry place, securely out of reach of children.
