Improvement of blood sugar control in Type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It complements diet and exercise and is prescribed for individuals who have difficulty managing their blood sugar levels at first or have not achieved sufficient results with existing medications. It may be used when monotherapy with Metformin or Sitagliptin is not effective or when replacing the combination therapy of both drugs. Additionally, it can be added in cases where blood sugar control is difficult even when used together with sulfonylurea or thiazolidinedione, insulin to enhance efficacy. By improving blood sugar management in conjunction with various treatment methods, it promotes patients' health.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects caused by Metformin. 1. For patients not currently treated with Metformin: The initial dose of this medication 50/500 mg is taken 1 tablet twice a day, and can be increased to 1 tablet of 50/1000 mg twice a day. 2. For patients being treated with Metformin:
This medication contains Sitagliptin and Metformin components and is used for diabetes treatment. First, during the use of this medication, serious allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rashes, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. Also, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if abdominal pain or vomiting occurs after taking this medication, promptly inform medical personnel. The Metformin ingredient contained in this drug can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis, which manifests with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, and abdominal pain, and requires immediate treatment. Particularly in patients with impaired kidney function, reduced heart or liver function, dehydration, or severe infections, it is safer not to take this medication. It should also be temporarily discontinued before and after surgery or examination using radiologic contrast agents and resumed only after kidney function recovery. During the use of this medication, regular checks of kidney function and blood tests should be performed, and periodic checks of Vitamin B12 levels are recommended. Furthermore, symptoms of hypoglycemia may occur, so regular meals should be taken, and when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents, dosage adjustments may be necessary to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. It is advisable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as children and adolescents under 18 years of age, not to take this medication. Finally, alcohol consumption should be avoided during the use of this medication, as excessive drinking can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. If there are any changes in symptoms or adverse reactions during the use of this medication, it is important to consult medical personnel immediately for appropriate action.
