This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered in conjunction with diet and exercise therapy for more effective blood sugar management. It is used in cases where previous diabetes medications have not been used or where blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy, and it can also be administered when monotherapy with metformin or sitagliptin is insufficient. Additionally, it can be used in combination with other medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, and insulin when sufficient blood sugar control is difficult. This drug is effective in improving blood sugar control in various combination therapies.

Precautions

This drug contains sitagliptin and metformin as active ingredients and is used for diabetes treatment. While taking this medication, a severe allergic reaction may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur, discontinue use immediately and consult your doctor. Due to the risk of acute pancreatitis, if abdominal pain, vomiting, or persistent discomfort occurs after taking this medication, inform medical staff immediately. This medication should not be given to patients with severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, or serious infection conditions. Before and after tests using radiocontrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and can be resumed after kidney function has returned to normal. It is safer for pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women not to take this medication. While taking this medication, be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms, especially when taken with other hypoglycemic agents, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. A rare but fatal side effect called lactic acidosis may occur, so if symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain appear, inform medical staff immediately. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol while taking it.
