This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is primarily used for blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. When taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms like skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing develop, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Serious side effects such as acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, have been reported, so if symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, seek medical attention promptly. Metformin can rarely cause a metabolic disorder known as lactic acidosis, which can be fatal, so if symptoms like difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur during use, inform a doctor immediately. Patients with poor kidney function or conditions such as severe infection, dehydration, acute myocardial infarction, or acute heart failure should not use this medication. The use of this medication should be temporarily halted if planned for surgery or radiological contrast examinations, resuming only after confirming normal kidney function. Pregnant women, women of childbearing potential, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. This medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is needed when irregular meals or vigorous exercise occur, or when taken with other hypoglycemic agents. During treatment, it is recommended to regularly check kidney function and blood tests, and also to monitor for vitamin B12 deficiency. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, hence excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment. If severe joint pain or blisters on the skin occur during treatment, inform a doctor immediately. In case of overdose, immediate medical treatment is necessary, and sitagliptin can be partially removed by hemodialysis. Patients taking this medication should fully understand its effects and side effects, consistently take it as directed by their doctor, and undergo regular check-ups.
