View approved original text

This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes to effectively control their blood sugar levels. It is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapies, and is administered when previous diabetes treatments have not been effective or when blood sugar cannot be sufficiently controlled with monotherapy. Additionally, it may be used when treatment with metformin or sitagliptin alone does not adequately control blood sugar, or when it is necessary to switch from combination therapy. It can be taken alongside this medication in cases where blood sugar control is difficult even after combination therapy with metformin and sulfonylurea, or metformin and thiazolidinedione. This medication can enhance therapeutic effects when used in conjunction with insulin and metformin that are also not adequately controlling blood sugar. It is used to improve blood sugar control in various treatment scenarios.

Patients not treated with metformin: The initial dose of this medication 50/500 mg is 1 tablet twice daily, which can be adjusted to 50/1000 mg. 2. Precautions

This medication may cause serious allergic reactions at the start of treatment, so if symptoms such as skin rashes or respiratory difficulties occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Moreover, there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so it is essential to consult a healthcare professional promptly if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting arise. Patients with impaired kidney function, heart disease, or acute infection should not use this medication, particularly if renal function is below 45 mL/min, it is forbidden to administer. Before and after using iodine contrast agents for tests, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming that renal function is normal. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so care should be taken with missed meals, irregular eating, or excessive exercise. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function, dehydration or severe infection must take special care as they may experience severe metabolic acidosis known as lactic acidosis. During treatment, it is important to regularly monitor kidney function and blood tests for any abnormalities. Excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of side effects, so drinking should be avoided while taking this medication. If surgery is planned, use should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the procedure, and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with other diabetes medications, so dose adjustments may be needed according to a doctor's instructions. If skin blisters or severe joint pain develop during medication, contact healthcare professionals immediately. In the case of overdose, treatments such as blood dialysis may be necessary, so dosage must be strictly followed. When administering this medication to the elderly, dosage adjustments should be made considering declining kidney function, and regular monitoring is essential.
