This medication is used to enhance blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes when combined with dietary and exercise therapies. The combined administration of sitagliptin and dapagliflozin further improves blood glucose control, assisting patients in managing their diabetes.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

For patients administered sitagliptin 100 mg and dapagliflozin 10 mg, 1 tablet may be taken once a day, regardless of meals. The tablet should be swallowed whole.

Precautions

This medication is used in the treatment of diabetes, and several precautions must be strictly followed during its use. First, allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, immediately discontinue use and consult a physician. In addition, serious inflammation of the pancreas, known as acute pancreatitis, may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever arise, visit a hospital immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis, in patients with type 1 diabetes, or in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis. Elderly patients or those taking diuretics who may be at risk for decreased fluid volume or hypotension should have their fluid status and kidney function assessed before starting this medication, and blood pressure and kidney function should be monitored periodically during treatment. While taking this medication, urinary and genital infections may occur; appropriate treatment should be received if symptoms or pain or itching arises. Additionally, hypoglycemic symptoms may develop, so especially when taken with insulin or other glucose-lowering agents, blood sugar levels should be frequently checked, and attention should be paid to hypoglycemic symptoms. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from using this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be discontinued immediately. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years have not been established; therefore, it is not used in these groups. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, it is important to receive appropriate treatment based on symptoms and to be monitored in a hospital if necessary. Lastly, while this medication does not significantly affect driving or operating machinery, caution is needed due to the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication should always be taken according to a physician's prescription and instructions; if any unusual symptoms arise, consult a specialist immediately.
