View approved original text

This medication is used to assist dietary and exercise regimens to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered when initial diabetic drug treatment is absent and blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy. It is also used when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy of either metformin or sitagliptin, or as a replacement for combination therapy of these two drugs. Patients who have difficulty controlling blood sugar with combinations of metformin with sulfonylureas, metformin with thiazolidinediones, or insulin with metformin can also be treated with this drug in combination with those treatments. In other words, this drug provides significant assistance as a complementary therapy when blood sugar control is insufficient even with various drug therapy combinations. This medication effectively improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients.
