Improvement in blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to effectively control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone to patients starting drug treatment for the first time, and can also be used as an alternative therapy when monotherapy with metformin or sitagliptin is insufficient. Additionally, if blood glucose control is difficult in patients already on combination therapy with metformin and sulfonylurea, thiazolidinedione, or insulin, this medication can be used in combination to enhance therapeutic effects. This medication assists with dietary and exercise therapy and helps improve blood glucose control.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dose is gradually increased to minimize gastrointestinal adverse reactions due to metformin. 1. For patients not currently receiving metformin: This medication at 50/500 mg is taken as one tablet twice daily, and can be increased to 50/1000 mg as one tablet twice daily. 2. For patients receiving metformin treatment:
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used in the treatment of diabetes. When taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms such as skin rash, urticaria, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, you should stop taking it immediately and inform a doctor. Serious pancreatic inflammation known as pancreatitis may occur, so immediate consultation with healthcare providers is necessary if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occur. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute illnesses, heart failure, myocardial infarction, sepsis, or those with similar conditions should not use this medication. Administration should be temporarily suspended before and after examinations using iodine contrast agents, and should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function. Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not use this medication. Exercise caution if experiencing irregular meals, nutritional deficiencies, or intense physical activity as this may increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Regular kidney function tests must be done during treatment, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, you should consult a healthcare provider immediately. Additionally, consumption of alcohol should be avoided as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. This medication may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken together with other glucose-lowering agents, particularly insulin or sulfonylurea, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. It is advised to discontinue this medication at least 48 hours before surgery, and resumption should occur only after normal oral intake is restored and kidney function is confirmed. While taking this medication, regular blood glucose monitoring and liver, kidney function, and blood tests should be carried out to monitor for adverse reactions. Rarely, severe joint pain, skin conditions, and muscle pain may occur, so consultation with a physician is necessary if symptoms appear. In case of overdose, visit a hospital immediately for appropriate treatment; blood dialysis may be beneficial.
