Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This drug is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes in conjunction with diet and exercise therapy. It can be used in patients who have not previously taken diabetes medication or have difficulty controlling blood sugar with monotherapy. It is also useful when blood sugar control is insufficient with either metformin or sitagliptin monotherapy or when replacing combination therapy of the two drugs. It can be combined in patients who have difficulty controlling blood sugar with the combination of metformin and sulfonylurea, or metformin and thiazolidinedione. If blood sugar control remains insufficient after insulin and metformin combination therapy, it can be used with insulin to improve blood sugar control. This medication effectively improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes when used with various therapeutic methods.
This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to minimize gastrointestinal side effects from metformin. 1. Patients currently not treated with metformin: The initial dosage is 50/500 mg of this drug taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, which can be increased to 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice daily. 2. Patients currently treated with metformin:
This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this drug, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing arise, you should stop taking it immediately and consult your doctor. Additionally, this medication may cause acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort occurs after taking the drug, you should promptly visit a hospital. The metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic disorder, so it should not be taken in cases of decreased kidney function, dehydration, severe infection, or heart problems. This drug should not be given to patients with moderate to severe kidney dysfunction, acute heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction, and should be discontinued for a certain period before and after tests using iodinated contrast agents. It is safer not to use this medication in pregnant or nursing women, and in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. During treatment, symptoms of hypoglycemia due to excessively low blood sugar may occur, so do not skip meals and take the medication regularly, and be cautious when used with other antidiabetic agents as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be performed while taking this medication, and periodic checks of vitamin B12 levels are recommended. Excessive drinking or acute or chronic alcohol intake can increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so it should be avoided. If surgery is planned, the medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to surgery and resumed only after kidney function has been confirmed to be normal post-surgery. Finally, this medication may interact with other drugs, so inform your healthcare provider about all medications being taken, and always consult before starting or stopping any new medications.
