Precautions

This medication is used to treat diabetes and contains two ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin. Before using this medication, you must inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of severe allergic reactions to the medication. If you experience symptoms such as skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck after taking the medication, you must stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. This medication can cause serious side effects such as pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, so if you experience sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, or loss of appetite during treatment, you should immediately visit a medical facility. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, acute heart problems or heart failure, acute infections, or dehydration may be at risk if they take this medication, so it should not be used in those cases. Iodine contrast media tests require temporary discontinuation of this medication, and it should only be resumed after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. Pregnant women, women with a possibility of pregnancy, and breastfeeding women are advised against taking this medication. During treatment, be vigilant for symptoms of hypoglycemia. Especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so blood glucose levels should be checked frequently, and appropriate action should be taken if symptoms arise. Additionally, lactic acidosis, a rare but serious metabolic disorder due to the metformin component, can occur; therefore, discontinuation is necessary in cases of severe dehydration, heart disease, liver function impairment, or acute infections. Symptoms may include muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, and abdominal pain. Regular monitoring of kidney function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels are important during treatment. Excessive alcohol consumption can also increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is advisable to avoid alcohol. If surgery is planned, the medication should be stopped 48 hours prior to the procedure and can be resumed after confirming normal kidney function following surgery. This medication has not been proven safe or effective in children and adolescents and should not be used in these populations. For elderly patients, caution is necessary as kidney function may decline easily, and regular kidney function tests should be conducted. In case of overdose, contact a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment, and if necessary, blood dialysis can be performed to remove the drug. Any discomfort or adverse reactions during treatment should be discussed with a doctor immediately.
