Effect of relieving symptoms and maintenance therapy for gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux disease
This medication is used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers and is effective for erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It also relieves symptoms caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used for long-term maintenance therapy. Therefore, it is used for the treatment and management of related diseases of the stomach and esophagus.
1) Gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers: Typically, adults are prescribed 10/500 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20/500 mg can be taken orally once daily. Generally, treatment for gastric ulcers lasts up to 8 weeks, and for duodenal ulcers, up to 6 weeks. 2) Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10/500 mg or 20/500 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are given for 8 weeks and symptoms persist, an additional 8 weeks of 10/500 mg or 20/500 mg can be administered orally twice daily. However, once daily administration of 20/500 mg twice daily is limited to patients with confirmed severe mucosal injury. 3) Symptomatic relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10/500 mg orally once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after 4 weeks, further evaluation is necessary. Once symptoms resolve, on-demand therapy with 10/500 mg orally once daily can be used to manage any subsequently emerging symptoms. 4) Long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease: Depending on the patient, 10/500 mg or 20/500 mg can be prescribed orally once daily. 2. Patients with liver impairment: Adverse reactions of hepatic encephalopathy have been reported in patients with cirrhosis. Therefore, cautious administration is required. 3. Elderly: Caution is necessary due to often diminished liver function. 4. Children: Safety in children has not been established.
