Precautions

This medication is an anti-diabetic agent containing two components: sitagliptin and metformin. First, while taking this medication, there is a rare risk of serious allergic reactions. If symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas; hence, if experiencing abdominal pain, vomiting, or fever, consult a doctor immediately. This medication should not be administered to individuals with impaired kidney function, especially those with severe renal impairment, dehydration, acute infection, or severe heart issues. Temporary discontinuation of this medication is recommended before examinations utilizing iodine contrast agents, and it should be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. This medication is not recommended for use in pregnant women or those who could become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers. While taking this medication, be mindful of hypoglycemic symptoms, especially when used along with other hypoglycemic agents or insulin, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Due to the metformin component, though rare, a serious condition called lactic acidosis may occur; therefore, immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms such as sudden difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain appear. Regular kidney function tests should be conducted, especially for elderly patients or those with compromised kidney function, requiring more frequent checks. During treatment, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided, and if undergoing surgery or dealing with severe illnesses, it is prudent to consult a doctor about temporarily halting medication intake. This medication may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, or cold-like symptoms, so if these symptoms are severe or persistent, notify a physician. Lastly, it is essential to maintain regular meals, exercise, and consistent monitoring of blood sugar and kidney function while taking this medication.
