This medication is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly reflux esophagitis. It is also utilized as long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. Additionally, it helps alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. This aids in improving uncomfortable symptoms for patients and reduces the risk of recurrence.

How to take

Adult dose

Take this medication on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before meals. Swallow it whole with at least half a cup of water. Do not take with beverages other than water. Do not chew or crush this medication. For the treatment of reflux esophagitis: take 40/800mg once daily for 4 weeks. In patients where esophagitis is unresponsive or symptoms persist, continue for an additional 4 weeks. For prevention of recurrence in patients with esophagitis

Precautions

This drug should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this medication or its components, those taking specific antiviral agents, lactating women, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not use this medication. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function, the elderly, those with heart or lung problems, and patients with electrolyte imbalances should use this drug with caution. Particularly, patients requiring sodium intake restriction should be cautious. Various side effects may occur while taking this medication. Commonly reported effects include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc., and less frequently, abnormalities in blood counts, liver function, skin rash, and myalgia have also been reported. In severe cases, allergic reactions or severe skin reactions may occur, and if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a healthcare provider is advised. Since this medication reduces stomach acid, long-term use may increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections and potentially elevate fracture risk. Therefore, regular examinations are recommended during prolonged use. This drug can interact with other medications, especially anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, certain antivirals, and immunosuppressants; therefore, caution is necessary when co-administered. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications. When pregnant, caution is required when using this drug, and lactating women are advised to avoid it. In the event of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, and appropriate treatment depending on symptoms should be provided, while keeping it out of reach of children. Additionally, transferring the medication to another container is to be avoided.
