This medication exerts an antacid effect on conditions such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and excess stomach acid, thereby alleviating symptoms. It also serves to supplement calcium in the body. Consequently, it helps to alleviate discomfort from gastrointestinal disorders and maintain calcium balance within the body. This effectiveness is utilized to enhance gastric health.

How to take

Adult dose

1) For gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, excessive stomach acid: Calcium carbonate 1-5g daily, divided into 3-4 oral doses. 2) For calcium supplementation: 1.5-3g daily, divided into 1-2 oral doses.

Precautions

Dosage should be adjusted to not exceed 7.5 grams per day. It should not be used in patients with severe hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria, those with primary hyperparathyroidism or hypothyroidism, patients with severe renal impairment, and those with insufficient stomach acid or achlorhydria. Caution is advised in patients with renal issues, weak heart and lung function, patients with constipation, and those on other medications. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation, and diarrhea may occur during treatment, and rarely, excessive stomach acid production can happen. In case of overdose, blood calcium levels may rise, and there is a possibility of developing alkalosis. Long-term or high-dose use may lead to kidney stones or urinary tract stones, so caution is necessary. An allergic reaction such as skin itching may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported immediately. The prescribed dosage and administration methods must be strictly followed, and if a child is taking the medication, a guardian should monitor them carefully. If symptoms do not improve after 2 weeks of use, the medication should be discontinued and a specialist consulted. This medicine should not be taken with certain antibiotics as absorption may be impaired. Furthermore, since this drug can alter the gastrointestinal environment, caution should be exercised regarding its effect on the absorption and excretion of other medications. Taking large amounts with milk can cause symptoms such as hypercalcemia or alkalosis, so conditions should be closely monitored. When used together with vitamin D or specific diuretics, there is a risk of increased blood calcium levels, so caution is advised. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. To maintain quality, do not transfer to another container, and caution should be taken to prevent misuse.
