How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before meals. It should be swallowed whole with at least half a cup of water. Do not take with other beverages aside from water. It should not be chewed or crushed. For the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): - For the treatment of reflux esophagitis: 40/800mg once daily for 4 weeks. - If esophagitis remains unresolved or symptoms persist, continue for an additional 4 weeks.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, patients with allergies or a history of hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, patients taking certain antiviral drugs, nursing women, and patients with a history of heart disease should not use this drug. Caution is also needed for patients with liver or kidney function issues, elderly patients, patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, patients with abnormalities in heart or lung functions, and patients with electrolyte imbalances when using this medication. This drug can cause various side effects, commonly including headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea, and rarely may lead to blood abnormalities, allergic reactions, liver function anomalies, skin rashes, and muscle pain. Especially with prolonged use, blood magnesium levels may decrease, leading to serious symptoms such as muscle cramps or arrhythmias, thus regular checkups are necessary. As this medication reduces stomach acid, there may be a slightly increased risk of bacterial infections in the stomach; hence it should only be used after a definitive diagnosis if gastric ulcers or malignancies are suspected. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of fractures, so patients at risk of osteoporosis should receive appropriate management including bone density testing. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, it is essential to consult a doctor if taking blood thinners, antiviral drugs, anticonvulsants, immunosuppressants, etc. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established, so it should be used cautiously only when needed, and it is advisable to avoid using it while nursing. In case of overdose, as there are no specific antidotes, appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms, and it should be kept out of reach of children. This medication should be stored in its original container, as transferring it to another container might cause quality maintenance issues.
