Treatment of male pattern baldness
This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia, occurring in adult males. Male pattern baldness is primarily caused by genetic factors and hormonal changes, and this medication helps to slow the progression of hair loss and promotes hair growth, maintaining healthy hair. With consistent treatment, improvements can be expected as the hair on the scalp gradually becomes thicker and denser. It is important to consult a professional if side effects occur, and proper usage contributes to the improvement of hair loss.
Generally, finasteride is administered orally at a dose of 1 mg once daily, and it can be taken regardless of meals. Typically, treatment effects can be observed after more than 3 months of use, and it is recommended to continue treatment to maintain efficacy. The duration of treatment and efficacy should be continually assessed. The treatment effects will disappear within 12 months after discontinuation.
This medication should not be administered to children or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not touch broken pieces of this medication, as its components can be absorbed through the skin and potentially harm male fetuses. During the use of this medication, mood changes such as feelings of depression or suicidal thoughts may occur, and if these symptoms arise, immediate consultation with a physician is required. Pregnant women should never take this medication due to the risk of genital abnormalities in male fetuses. Patients with allergies to this medication, those taking similar medications, or those with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not use this medication. Patients with poor liver function or allergies to certain dyes should use this medication cautiously. This medication can affect sexual function, leading to symptoms such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders, and in some patients, these symptoms may necessitate discontinuing the medication. However, in most cases, symptoms improve upon stopping the medication. Rarely, allergic reactions such as skin rashes, itching, hives, or mental symptoms like depression and anxiety may also occur. Patients should notify their doctor immediately if there are changes such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge in the breasts during treatment, and although the volume of ejaculate may decrease, this generally does not have a significant impact on sexual function. This medication does not have major interactions with other drugs, but if there are other medications being taken, it should be reported to the physician. Blood tests may show a decrease in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels during treatment, so caution is advised when interpreting test results. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, but immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided to maintain quality. Safety and efficacy in elderly patients have not been fully established, but dose adjustment is not necessary.
