This medication is used for the adjunctive treatment of insomnia and for its sedative effects.

How to take

Adult dose

As doxylamine succinate, 25 mg should be administered orally once a day, 30 minutes before bedtime. Adjustments may be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals with respiratory diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma. Patients with glaucoma should also avoid using this medication. Those with prostatic hypertrophy should refrain from taking this medication. It is advisable for nursing women not to take this medication. This medication is not recommended for children under 15 years of age. Since this medication contains lactose, individuals with genetic disorders such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. While taking this medication, one should not use it in combination with drugs such as imipramine-based antidepressants, anti-Parkinson's medications, or disopyramide, as the risk of side effects such as urinary retention and constipation may increase. Furthermore, one should not combine this medication with other drugs or take it for more than 2 weeks without consulting a physician or pharmacist. This medication can have strong sedative effects, so caution is advised when performing tasks that require alertness, such as working at heights or operating vehicles. It is safest not to take this medication while intoxicated or after consuming alcohol. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a physician or pharmacist before taking this medication. This medication may occasionally cause side effects due to its anticholinergic action. Drowsiness may occur, so it is best taken primarily before sleep. If excessive drowsiness occurs during the day, reducing the dose may be helpful.
