This medication is used for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease, especially erosive esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients. It is also used in combination with antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, helping to prevent recurrence in patients with duodenal and peptic ulcers. It is effective in short-term treatment for upper gastrointestinal symptoms due to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as for treating and preventing gastric ulcers in patients requiring continuous nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration. It is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding from gastric or duodenal ulcers. This medication is widely utilized for various gastrointestinal diseases and ulcer treatments, assisting in symptom improvement for patients.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients or to benzimidazoles in the past. In addition, when used in combination for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori with amoxicillin or clarithromycin, it should not be given to patients who are allergic to those antibiotics. Patients with certain heart diseases or a history of myocardial infarction, as well as nursing women, should also avoid using this medication. This medication contains the pigment Yellow No. 5; patients with allergy or hypersensitivity to this component should use it cautiously. Regular monitoring is necessary for long-term use, and patients should consult their physician if there are any changes in symptoms. Since this medication reduces gastric acid, it may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract; therefore, if diarrhea persists, patients should inform their healthcare provider. Additionally, long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, so patients at risk of osteoporosis should periodically check their bone health. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly anticoagulants, antiviral drugs, and antibiotics; therefore, patients should strictly follow their healthcare provider's instructions when taking these together. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should discuss its use with their physician before use. In the case of an overdose, there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment should be received and followed according to the healthcare provider's instructions. Finally, it should be kept in a secure place out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
