Treatment of hyperthyroidism (including before surgery or radioactive iodine therapy)
This medication is used for the treatment of hyperthyroidism. It particularly alleviates symptoms caused by excessive activation of thyroid function and is also helpful in the preparation for thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine treatment. It contributes to improving symptoms and enhancing treatment efficacy by normalizing thyroid function within the normal range.
Adults: The initial daily dose of methimazole is 15mg for mild cases, 30-40mg for moderate cases, and 60mg for severe cases, administered orally in 3 divided doses at 8-hour intervals. As hyperthyroidism resolves, the maintenance dose is 5-15mg per day in 1-2 divided doses.
Children: The initial daily dose of this medicine is 0.4mg/kg of body weight, administered in 3 divided doses at 8-hour intervals. As hyperthyroidism resolves, the maintenance dose is 1/2 of the initial dose.
