Precautions

This medicine should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. It may cause issues with drug excretion in cases of bowel obstruction or difficulty passing. Patients with gastrointestinal ulcers or esophageal varices should use this medication with caution, as it may irritate the affected areas due to its solid form passing through the gastrointestinal tract. Those prone to constipation should also be cautious. This medication may aggravate constipation, and patients with liver disorders are at risk of elevated blood ammonia levels. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal bloating may occur. If symptoms are severe, discontinuation or dose adjustment may be necessary. Long-term use has also reported symptoms including constipation, abdominal bloating, indigestion, headaches, and skin rashes, so any abnormal symptoms should be discussed with a doctor. In patients with chronic renal failure, administration should be carried out cautiously, with decisions made based on serum creatinine levels. Kidney function and symptoms should be monitored periodically during treatment. As this medication is an adsorbent, taking it with other drugs may reduce their effectiveness, so concurrent usage should be avoided. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established; it should only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. The safety of this medication in children and premature infants has also not been established, so caution is advised in these populations. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily due to decreased physical function, so extra caution is warranted when using this medication.
