Treatment of male pattern baldness
This medication is used for treating male pattern baldness, specifically androgenetic alopecia, in adult males, particularly those aged 18 to 41. Male pattern baldness refers to the condition where hair gradually thins and falls out due to genetic factors and the effects of male hormones. This drug helps to slow down the hair loss process and promotes hair growth, thereby improving baldness. Continuous use can increase hair density and thickness. Therefore, it is recommended as an effective treatment for alleviating symptoms in patients with male pattern baldness.
Generally, finasteride should be taken orally at a dose of 1 mg once daily, regardless of meals. Typically, treatment effects can be seen after using it for more than 3 months, and it is recommended to continue taking it for maintenance of treatment effects. The duration of treatment and effectiveness should be continuously evaluated. Stopping the medication will result in loss of treatment effects within 12 months.
This medication should not be used by children or women. In particular, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not handle broken pieces of this medication, as its components can be absorbed through the skin and potentially harm the fetus. During the use of this medication, one may experience depression or changes in mood, and if such symptoms occur, one should consult a doctor immediately. Pregnant women, individuals with hypersensitivity, certain genetic lactose intolerant patients, and those with allergies to soybean oil, beans, or peanuts should not take this medication. Patients with liver function problems or lipid metabolism disorders should use this medication cautiously and may need to have blood tests to monitor their condition. This medication can cause side effects such as sexual dysfunction, including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders, and if such symptoms develop, one should consult with a physician. Rarely, long-term use may lead to symptoms such as breast tenderness or enlargement and testicular pain. Men over 55 years old should have regular check-ups by a physician, as this medication can affect the risk of prostate cancer. This medication has few drug interactions, but if other medications are being used, one should inform their doctor. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and it should not be administered to children. No special dosage adjustments are needed for the elderly, although the effectiveness of the medication is not fully assured.
