How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If not currently treated with metformin: The initial dose is 2.5/500 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet at a time, and may be increased to 2.5/1000 mg, 1 tablet taken twice daily. 2. If switching from a combination therapy of linagliptin and metformin: Patients switching to this medication should take the same dose as their previous linagliptin and metformin treatment as the initial dose.

Precautions

This medication contains two components to help manage blood sugar. However, rare complications such as lactic acidosis may occur, which can pose severe risks due to excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body. It is safer not to use this medication in patients with impaired kidney function, liver dysfunction, acute infections, severe dehydration, and decreased cardiac or pulmonary function. Women who are pregnant or nursing should also avoid this medication, and it is not recommended for children and adolescents. While taking this medication, symptoms of hypoglycemia may appear, so careful monitoring of blood sugar levels is necessary, especially when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents. It is important to regularly check kidney function to confirm the safety of the medication, and if a sudden decline in kidney function is suspected, consult a doctor immediately. Acute pancreatitis or blistering skin conditions may develop; thus, if abdominal pain or skin abnormalities occur, stop taking the medication immediately and inform the healthcare provider. Vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so blood tests to check vitamin levels are recommended for prolonged use. This medication may interact with other drugs, so inform the doctor or pharmacist of any medications being taken. This medication should be temporarily discontinued before surgery or radiological examinations, and it can be resumed only after confirming that kidney function has returned to normal post-examination. Elderly patients often have reduced kidney function, so dosage adjustments and regular monitoring are necessary. This medication has not been sufficiently proven safe and effective for children, so it is advisable not to use it. Effects on driving or operating machinery are unknown, so it is important to assess one's response after taking the medication. In cases of overdose, immediate medical attention must be sought, particularly given the risk of lactic acidosis.
