Improvement of lipid levels related to hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and prevention of cardiovascular diseases
This medication is used for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly heterozygous familial and non-familial, as well as mixed dyslipidemia. It helps to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol which is the 'good' cholesterol. By using this drug in conjunction with a dietary regimen, blood lipid levels can be effectively controlled. This contributes to reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and improving health. Therefore, this medication is used effectively in the treatment of dyslipidemia.
This medication is taken once daily without regard to meals. The recommended initial dose is 2/10 mg once daily. If the LDL-cholesterol lowering effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 4/10 mg once daily. Dosing adjustments should be made based on the patient's response at intervals of 4 weeks or more. For patients taking pitavastatin calcium and ezetimibe simultaneously, this medication (a combination product with the same content of active ingredients) can be converted for convenience. For patients with liver impairment, an initial dose of 1 mg once daily is recommended, with the maximum dose being 2/10 mg once daily.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients with allergies to its components, those with severe liver disease, pregnant women, nursing mothers, or children. Patients with impaired liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively should use this medication with caution. Additionally, patients with kidney problems or a history of myopathy should be administered this drug carefully. If symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness appear while taking this medication, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary as these may indicate serious side effects such as muscle damage or rhabdomyolysis. Regular liver function tests should be conducted, and if liver enzyme levels are abnormally elevated, discontinuation of the medication may be required. This medication should not be administered to pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, and should be discontinued immediately if taken during pregnancy. Caution should be taken when this medication is combined with other drugs due to potential interactions, especially with cyclosporine, fibrate medications, and niacin. Elderly individuals may experience adverse reactions, so caution is needed when administering this medication to them. In the case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, treatment should be symptomatic and monitoring of liver function and muscle status should be conducted. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
