Treatment of male pattern hair loss
This medication is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in adult males, specifically androgenetic alopecia. It slows the progression of hair loss and promotes hair growth, thereby improving symptoms.
Typically administered as finasteride, 1 mg orally once daily, with or without food. It usually requires more than 3 months of use to see therapeutic effects, and continuous use is recommended to maintain the therapeutic effect. The treatment duration and effectiveness should be assessed regularly. If discontinued, the therapeutic effect will fade within 12 months.
This medication should not be used by children or women. Particularly, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not touch broken pieces of this medication, as it may pose a risk to a male fetus. Depressive symptoms or mood changes may occur during the use of this medication. If feelings of depression or suicidal thoughts arise, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Pregnant women should not take this medication as it may cause genital abnormalities in male fetuses, and it should also be avoided by individuals with hypersensitivity or certain genetic lactose intolerance, soybean oil or bean, and peanut allergies. Patients with impaired liver function or issues with lipid metabolism should be cautious when taking this medication. This medication may cause sexual side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation disorders. If these side effects occur, discontinue use and consult a doctor. Most side effects resolve upon stopping the medication. This medication may slightly increase the risk of prostate cancer; thus, men over the age of 55 should undergo regular check-ups and PSA level tests to monitor their condition. If changes such as lumps or pain in the breasts or any discharge occurs during use, inform medical personnel immediately. This medication has low potential for drug interactions, but if other medications are being taken, it is essential to consult a doctor or pharmacist. Pregnant women or nursing mothers should not take this medication, and safety and effectiveness in children have not been established, so it should not be used. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but if symptoms occur, visit a medical facility immediately. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
