This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of acute vitamin C deficiency, especially diseases like scurvy. It also helps in cases where the demand for vitamin C is increased, such as in pregnant or nursing women and those engaged in severe physical labor. It is expected to be effective in the improvement of capillary bleeding, metabolic disturbances due to medication, promotion of osteoid formation and bone healing during fractures, as well as in cases of pigmentation such as melasma and freckles, and photosensitive dermatitis. Overall, it is used for the improvement of various symptoms and diseases related to vitamin C deficiency.

How it is given

Adult administration

As ascorbic acid, 50 to 1,000 mg should be administered by subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection divided into 1 to several doses per day. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is an ampule injection and should be cut very carefully to avoid glass shards being mixed. Extra caution is needed, especially when used on children or elderly patients. It contains sodium bisulfite which can cause severe allergic reactions or asthma attacks in patients with sulfite allergies or asthma, so it must be administered cautiously. It should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or with certain diseases, such as idiopathic hyperoxaluria, Mediterranean anemia, gout, cystinuria, G6PD deficiency, and patients with kidney stones. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fatigue, facial flushing, headache, and insomnia may occur during administration. High doses may increase the risk of diarrhea or kidney stones, and diuretic effects may also occur. Excessive doses can cause problems in the kidneys, so caution is needed. This medication is generally taken orally but can be administered as an injection if necessary. Interactions may occur when taken with certain medications, so caution is advised, especially when combined with salicylates, aspirin, iron supplements, anticonvulsants, and oral contraceptives. During pregnancy, it should only be administered when necessary, as safety for the fetus has not been established, and high doses should be avoided. Caution is also needed during breastfeeding, but no significant risks have been reported at regular doses. This drug may affect the results of urine sugar tests or hematuria tests, so it should be taken into account during examinations.
