Treatment of essential hypertension and dyslipidemia (e.g., hypercholesterolemia)
This medication is used in patients with essential hypertension who have difficulty controlling blood pressure with amlodipine and valsartan monotherapy, and in patients with dyslipidemia or those at risk of cardiovascular disease who require atorvastatin. The combination of amlodipine and valsartan effectively lowers blood pressure, helping to control hypertension, while atorvastatin improves serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Additionally, atorvastatin aids in reducing cardiovascular risks in diabetic patients with coronary heart disease risk factors. By administering these two medications together, both blood pressure and blood lipids can be managed simultaneously, effectively improving cardiovascular health. Therefore, this medication is used in the treatment of patients with both hypertension and dyslipidemia.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 1 tablet once daily, to be taken with water. It is advisable to take it at the same time daily (e.g., in the morning). For amlodipine/valsartan combination therapy, 5/80 mg is administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 80 mg. 5/160 mg is given to patients with inadequate blood pressure control using amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 160 mg.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. If there is a significant increase in muscle-related disorders or muscle pain, or if creatine kinase levels rise significantly, use should be discontinued due to the risk of serious muscle damage leading to kidney failure. This medication should not be used in patients with specific liver disorders, severe kidney disorders, pregnant or potentially pregnant women, or patients with hypersensitivity. Patients with insufficient body sodium or fluids, those with hyperkalemia, and patients with kidney or heart problems should be closely monitored while taking this medication. Caution is needed as dizziness or fatigue may occur while driving or operating machinery. Regular checks of liver and kidney function should be conducted during use, and if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, immediate consultation with a physician is required. Interactions may occur when taken with other medications, so all medications being taken should be disclosed to a physician or pharmacist. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and fertile women should use appropriate contraception. It is recommended that this medication not be used in children.
