Treatment and prevention of erosive reflux esophagitis, improvement of gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and to treat erosive reflux esophagitis. It also helps maintain remission in patients with esophagitis to prevent recurrence. Even in the absence of esophagitis, it is used effectively to improve symptoms caused by gastroesophageal reflux. Overall, this drug plays a significant role in reducing discomfort between the stomach and esophagus and improving the quality of life for patients.
This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before meals. It should be swallowed whole with at least half a cup of water. Do not take with beverages other than water. It should not be chewed or crushed. Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): - Erosive reflux esophagitis: administered once daily for 4 weeks at a dose of 40/800mg. - If symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks of treatment may be required. - Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence: once daily at a dose of 20/800mg.
This medication should not be used in patients who have allergies or have had hypersensitivity reactions to this drug or its components. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients taking certain antiviral medications, such as atazanavir and nelfinavir, or to breastfeeding women. Patients with a history of myocardial infarction or those taking products containing the ingredient L-arginine should also refrain from using this medication. Patients with impaired liver function, elderly patients, patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, patients with reduced kidney function, and patients with cardiac or pulmonary issues should use this medication with caution. Furthermore, patients with electrolyte imbalances or those needing to restrict sodium intake should be careful when using this drug. This medication can cause various side effects; common symptoms include headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting. Rarely, it may lead to blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, skin rashes, and muscle pain. If severe skin reactions or allergic reactions occur, the use of this drug should be discontinued immediately, and medical attention should be sought. This medication suppresses stomach acid, which may slightly increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections. Moreover, long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporotic fractures, thus patients with low bone density require regular examinations. Prolonged use of this medication may lower serum magnesium levels, so it is important to periodically check magnesium levels and supplement if necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially when taken alongside warfarin, digoxin, methotrexate, clopidogrel, etc., and consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is advised. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not well established, hence caution is required when administering it to pregnant women, and it is advisable for breastfeeding women to refrain from using this drug. In case of overdose, no specific antidote exists, so it is crucial to receive appropriate treatment based on symptoms, and it should be stored out of the reach of children. This medication should be stored in its original container, as transferring it to another container may alter its quality.
Urticaria, angioedema → severe allergic reaction; hepatitis with or without jaundice → liver dysfunction (jaundice); Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome) → severe skin reaction; difficulty breathing, respiratory distress, worsening asthma → respiratory problems; headache, consciousness confusion, visual disturbances.
