This medication is effective for the treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also used for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It helps alleviate symptoms caused by gastroesophageal reflux even in the absence of esophagitis. In other words, this drug plays an important role in preventing and treating various symptoms and inflammation caused by reflux between the stomach and the esophagus.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before meals. Take this medication with at least half a cup of water, swallowing it whole. Avoid taking it with beverages other than water. Do not chew or crush this medication. Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: Administer 40/800 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist, an additional 4 weeks of treatment is required. -

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with a known allergy to this drug or its components, those experiencing hypersensitivity reactions, patients taking specific antiviral medications (atazanavir, nelfinavir, rilpivirine), breastfeeding women, or those with a history of myocardial infarction should not take this medication. Patients with liver or kidney issues, elderly patients, those with impaired cardiac and pulmonary function, patients with electrolyte imbalances, and patients requiring sodium intake restrictions should take this medication with caution. Since this drug contains sodium bicarbonate, caution is needed due to potential side effects such as alkalosis or sodium accumulation. Various adverse reactions can occur while taking this medication, including common side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, as well as rare side effects such as blood abnormalities, hypersensitivity reactions, hypomagnesemia, liver function abnormalities, skin rash, muscle pain, and nephritis. Additionally, long-term use may increase the risk of fractures, necessitating regular monitoring for patients at risk for osteoporosis. This drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may affect the absorption of certain medications. Therefore, if taking other medications, consulting with a physician or pharmacist to check for drug interactions is advised. Caution is especially needed when used concurrently with warfarin, digoxin, clopidogrel, methotrexate, etc. Data on the safety of this medication during pregnancy is limited, so it is essential to consult with a physician before taking if pregnant. Additionally, breastfeeding women are advised against taking this medication. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment and standard supportive care are necessary, as this drug is not removed by dialysis. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container could compromise its quality.
