This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis which is likely to develop in postmenopausal women.

How to take

Adult dose

Once daily, 1 tablet orally.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of blood clots in the bloodstream, so caution is required for patients at high risk of thrombosis. Especially if immobilization occurs, treatment with this medication should be discontinued and may be resumed once symptoms improve. As this medication is primarily metabolized in the liver, patients with impaired liver function should avoid its use or be carefully monitored. It is not recommended for use in premenopausal women, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. It is not used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, and caution is needed for patients with a history of stroke or at high risk of stroke. If any abnormal symptoms such as breast or uterine bleeding occur while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately. Common symptoms that may appear include facial flushing due to vasodilation, leg cramps, cold symptoms, and peripheral edema, so symptoms should be carefully monitored. Moreover, this medication should not be administered to patients with certain genetic issues or hypercalcemia and those with kidney stones. There may be interactions when used with other drugs, so inform healthcare providers of any medications being taken. In case of overdose, symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, and muscle cramps may occur, so dosage must be strictly adhered to. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children, so it is not used in this population. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers.
