Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who are hypersensitive to this drug or its components, or who have a history of hypersensitivity to benzimidazole derivatives. Additionally, patients currently taking specific antiviral agents such as atazanavir, nelfinavir, and rilpivirine should not use this medication. Nursing women should also avoid taking this medication. Patients with myocardial infarction or a history of myocardial infarction should not receive this drug. Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired liver function, elderly patients, those with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, impaired kidney function, cardiac or pulmonary issues, and those with electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, or hypochloremic alkalosis. Patients with conditions requiring sodium restriction such as hypertension, edema, or pregnancy-induced hypertension should also be cautious when taking this medication. Various adverse reactions such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and dry mouth may occur, and rare, severe side effects including blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, skin rashes, and muscle pain have been reported. In particular, prolonged use may lead to hypomagnesemia, necessitating regular blood tests and monitoring of symptoms. As this drug inhibits gastric acid, it may promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing the risk of infection; thus, patients should consult a physician if diarrhea persists. Furthermore, the risk of fractures may increase with long-term or high-dose use, so caution is needed for those at risk of osteoporosis. Interactions with other drugs may occur, especially when taken concomitantly with anticoagulants, antiviral agents, or anticonvulsants, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is essential. The safety of this drug during pregnancy has not been fully established, so it should be used cautiously and only when necessary, and it should not be taken during breastfeeding. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, appropriate treatment should be administered according to symptoms, and it is important to keep this medication out of reach of children.
