This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, particularly erosive reflux esophagitis. It is also effective as a long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It helps alleviate symptoms in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease who do not have esophagitis. In summary, this medication improves various issues caused by gastroesophageal reflux, thereby enhancing the patient's quality of life.

How to take

Adult dose

Take this medication on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before meals. Swallow whole with at least half a cup of water. Do not take with any other beverages except water. Do not chew or crush. Precautions

This medication should not be used in specific patients. For example, patients who have had allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to this medication or its ingredients, patients taking certain antiviral agents (atazanavir, nelfinavir, rilpivirine), nursing women, and patients with a history of myocardial infarction should not be administered this medication. Patients with poor liver function, kidney problems, the elderly, those with decreased cardiac or pulmonary function, patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, and those with electrolyte imbalances should use this medication cautiously. Patients who should particularly limit sodium intake need to be careful. This medication can cause various side effects. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, as well as skin rashes, itching, hair loss, and rarely severe allergic reactions or skin diseases may occur. Blood abnormalities, muscle pain, nephritis, mental confusion, insomnia, etc., have also been reported. Rarely, electrolyte abnormalities such as hypomagnesemia, hypokalemia, and hypocalcemia may occur, necessitating regular testing during prolonged use. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract. There is a higher risk of diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile in hospitalized patients, so if diarrhea symptoms persist, consult a doctor. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of fractures, and patients at risk for osteoporosis are recommended to have regular bone density tests. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is needed when combined with anticoagulants, antiviral agents, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, etc. All medications being taken should be disclosed to a doctor or pharmacist.
