This drug should not be chewed or crushed. For the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40/800 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist, continue for another 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients: 20/800 mg once daily.

This drug is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive reflux esophagitis. It is also effective for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. Aids in alleviating symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It thus supports a more comfortable life for patients.

How to take

Adult dose

This drug should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before meals. It should be swallowed whole with at least half a cup of water. Do not take with any beverages other than water. This drug should not be chewed or crushed. For the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40/800 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms persist, continue for another 4 weeks. - Long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in esophagitis patients: 20/800 mg once daily.

Precautions

This drug should not be administered to certain patients. Patients with allergies or a history of hypersensitivity to this drug or any of its components should not be treated. In addition, patients taking certain antiviral medications or those who are breastfeeding, as well as those with a history of heart attacks, should not use this drug. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function, elderly patients, or those with heart or lung issues should use this drug with caution. Caution is also necessary for patients with electrolyte imbalances or those requiring sodium intake restrictions. This drug can cause various side effects. Symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, skin rashes, and myalgia may occur, and in rare cases, serious allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, or liver dysfunction may arise. Long-term use requires regular monitoring, and there might be a slight increase in the risk of gastrointestinal infections. Notably, using this drug for over a year may increase the risk of fractures, necessitating close observation of bone health. This drug may interact with other medications, so patients taking other drugs should consult their doctor or pharmacist. Special caution is required when combined with anticoagulants, antiviral drugs, or certain antiepileptics. The safety of this drug during pregnancy has not been fully established, so it should be used with care, and it is advisable not to administer it while breastfeeding. In case of overdose, no specific antidote exists, and appropriate treatment should be received according to the symptoms, while keeping it out of reach of children.

Serious side effects

Hives, angioedema, anaphylactic reactions, shock, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reactions with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms), hepatitis, liver failure, jaundice, and encephalopathy in patients with pre-existing liver disease.

Mild side effects

Frequent headaches, occasional dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, mental confusion, depression, aggression, hallucinations, drowsiness, taste disturbances, blurred vision, bronchospasm, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, stomatitis, gastrointestinal candidiasis, dermatitis, itching, rashes, hair loss, photosensitivity, fractures, joint pain, muscle pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, increased sweating, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, abdominal distension, allergic reactions.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This drug may be sensitive to air or moisture; therefore, it must be stored in a tightly sealed container. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius room temperature. This helps to maintain the effectiveness of the drug for a longer duration.
