Improvement of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia
This medication is used in conjunction with dietary therapy for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It works by reducing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglyceride levels and increasing HDL cholesterol levels, thereby improving blood lipid status. This helps maintain vascular health and lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
For adults, the usual initial dose of pitavastatin calcium is 1 to 2 mg once daily. If the LDL cholesterol-lowering effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased up to 4 mg daily. The dosage should be adjusted appropriately with intervals of 4 weeks or more based on LDL cholesterol levels, treatment goals, and patient response.
This medication should not be used by patients with allergies to specific ingredients, those with severely impaired liver function, patients with myopathy, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and children. Caution should be exercised in patients with liver or kidney problems, elderly patients, those with hypothyroidism, and patients with specific lipid disorders. The medication may cause side effects such as muscle pain or weakness, liver dysfunction, skin rash, dyspepsia, etc., and patients should consult a physician immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur. In particular, if muscle-related symptoms or liver function test results are abnormally high, the use of the medication should be stopped. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, it is important to inform the doctor if taking medications such as cyclosporine, fibrates, or niacin. As it is used to treat hypercholesterolemia, it is important to check blood lipid levels before administration and to follow dietary and exercise regimens. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication and must stop immediately if pregnancy is confirmed while taking it. The prescribed dosage should be strictly followed, and regular blood tests and liver function tests should be conducted. Patients with certain genetic conditions such as children or lactose intolerance should not use this medication, and the tablets should be swallowed whole without dividing them. Keep the medication out of reach of children and store it in its original container to maintain the quality of the medication.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
