Adult dose
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. For hypertension treatment, it is recommended to start with an oral dose of 50 mg once daily of losartan potassium. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect will be reached 3 to 6 weeks after starting treatment. In cases where the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the same dose may be divided and taken twice daily, or if necessary, increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily.
Child dose
For pediatric and adolescent patients aged 6 years and older weighing 20 kg to less than 50 kg, it is recommended to take 25 mg once daily, and it may be increased to a maximum of 50 mg once daily based on blood pressure response.

This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Additionally, it helps prevent and treat kidney disease in patients who have both hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is effective for blood pressure management as well as improving kidney health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. For hypertension treatment, it is recommended to start with an oral dose of 50 mg once daily of losartan potassium. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect will be reached 3 to 6 weeks after starting treatment. In cases where the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the same dose may be divided and taken twice daily, or if necessary, increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily.

Child dose

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, with increased risk of impaired lung development, skeletal deformities, hypotension, and renal failure in newborns. Upon confirmation of pregnancy, this medication should be discontinued immediately, and women who may become pregnant should avoid taking this medication. Patients who have allergic reactions to this medication, severe liver dysfunction, or hereditary angioedema should avoid taking it. Furthermore, patients with hyperkalemia or severely impaired kidney function, as well as those with certain heart valve diseases, should use caution when taking this medication. As this medication lowers blood pressure, symptoms of hypotension may occur, including dizziness or fainting. Potassium levels in the blood may increase; hence, it should not be taken with potassium supplements or medications containing potassium, and regular blood tests should be conducted. Since liver dysfunction or deterioration of kidney function may occur, patients should consult their doctor immediately if any unusual symptoms appear. Caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or drowsiness may occur during treatment. Children, especially those under 6 years of age or with significantly impaired kidney function, should not take this medication. In case of overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur; immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and if it must be taken, breastfeeding should be stopped. When storing the medication, it should be kept in a tightly sealed container, out of reach of children, and not transferred to other containers.

Angioedema (potentially causing airway obstruction), angioedema causing swelling of the face/lips/pharynx/tongue, severe allergic reaction symptoms such as hives, difficulty breathing, generalized rash, edema, liver dysfunction (hepatitis, acute hepatitis, fulminant hepatitis), severe skin reactions (severe rashes, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain), ventricular extrasystole, atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, as well as severe neurological symptoms (severe headache, confusion).
