This medication helps to lower total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Apo B protein, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and increases good cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol. It is also used as an adjunct treatment to reduce total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and Apo B protein levels in pediatric patients aged 10 to 16 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is especially effective in cases of high LDL-cholesterol levels, family history, or the presence of risk factors. This drug is used to enhance treatment effects in conjunction with dietary therapy.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with allergies to the components of this drug, severely impaired liver function, myopathy, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this drug. Additionally, patients with genetic issues like lactose intolerance should avoid this medication. Patients with kidney or liver function issues, the elderly, children, and those with hypothyroidism should use this drug with special caution. When taking with other medications, muscle damage or worsening of kidney function may occur, so consultation with a doctor is necessary. During treatment with this medication, symptoms like muscle pain, weakness, abdominal pain, rash, or itching may occur, so inform your doctor immediately if these symptoms arise. It is important to have regular liver function tests and blood tests to check for abnormalities in the liver or kidneys. This medication is not given to women who are pregnant, women who could become pregnant, or women who are breastfeeding. In children, it should be administered cautiously under expert supervision, and safety has not been established in children under 10 years of age. This drug may interact with certain other medications, so caution is advised. Particularly, combining with cyclosporine, fibrate drugs, niacin, erythromycin and other specific medications increases the risk of muscle damage or kidney function deterioration. The elderly may experience adverse reactions more easily due to decreased physiological functions, so caution is warranted during use. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should be kept in its original container. Finally, since this drug is used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, it is recommended to have sufficient examination and to incorporate dietary and exercise therapy before taking it. If there is no treatment effect, the medication should be discontinued.
