Relief of symptoms of osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis)
This medication helps alleviate pain and inflammation symptoms associated with osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative arthritis. It selectively inhibits the COX-2 enzyme to reduce inflammatory responses and relieve pain. However, before administration, the individual patient's health status and risk factors must be assessed, and caution is necessary to ensure safe use. When used after considering overall health risks, this medication can effectively improve osteoarthritis symptoms.
Before administering this medicine, consider the potential risks and benefits of this medicine and other alternative treatments. As cardiovascular risk increases with increasing dose and duration of exposure, administer for the shortest possible duration. Because adverse reactions such as hypertension, congestive heart failure, and edema may occur during treatment, periodically, at least monthly, reassess whether treatment should be continued based on the patient's symptom relief and response to treatment. This medicine may be administered with or without food. Adults: The recommended dose is 30 mg once daily; do not exceed 30mg per day. If there is no therapeutic benefit at the recommended dose, discontinue this medicine and consider an appropriate alternative treatment. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dosage adjustment is required in patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score 5-9). However, caution should be exercised when administering this medicine to patients with moderate hepatic impairment because experience is limited. Do not administer this medicine to patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score >9), as there is no experience in these patients. Patients with renal impairment: No dosage adjustment is required in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or greater). Do not administer this medicine to patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 30 mL/min). Elderly patients: No dosage adjustment is required in elderly patients.
This medication may cause serious side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding if taken by individuals who regularly consume more than three alcoholic beverages daily, so it is essential to consult a doctor or pharmacist. Additionally, this medication may increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack or stroke, so individuals with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors should exercise caution and use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible. Serious gastrointestinal problems such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, or perforation may occur; therefore, caution should be exercised in individuals with gastrointestinal conditions or older adults. Patients with uncontrolled hypertension, severe heart failure, markedly reduced liver or kidney function, active peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication. Patients with diminished liver or kidney function, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, history of heart failure, or edema need to exercise caution when taking this medication and should do so under a doctor's guidance. While taking this medication, regular monitoring of blood pressure, liver function, kidney function, and blood tests is recommended to detect and address any anomalies early. This medication can cause various side effects, including common symptoms like dyspepsia, headache, dizziness, edema, and hypertension. In severe cases, skin rash, breathing difficulties, and heart irregularities may occur, so contact medical personnel immediately if unusual symptoms arise. Moreover, this medication can interact with other drugs, so inform your doctor, especially if you are taking anticoagulants, antihypertensive medications, diuretics, immunosuppressants, or oral contraceptives. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid this medication, as it may be harmful to the fetus; breastfeeding mothers should also avoid using this medication or stop breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years of age; therefore, it is advisable not to use it. Elderly patients are more likely to have decreased kidney, liver, and heart function; thus, careful monitoring and management are particularly necessary when using this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and lethargy, and in severe cases, gastrointestinal bleeding or kidney failure may occur, so seek medical attention immediately.
