Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes improve blood sugar control alongside diet and exercise. It can be administered alone, and in cases where blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy and there has been no previous treatment for diabetes, it can be used in combination with metformin. Additionally, this medication can be used in combination with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy. Even in cases where blood sugar control is difficult despite combination therapy with multiple medications, this medication can be used to effectively manage blood sugar. It aids in improving blood sugar control through various therapeutic approaches.
This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg in monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. This medication can be taken regardless of meal timing. This medication may cause severe allergic reactions after administration; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Also, during treatment with this medication, symptoms of pancreatitis, such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and nausea, may occur, so careful observation is required. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, nor in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication. Patients with impaired kidney function should have their dosage adjusted; regular kidney function tests are recommended. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur during treatment with this medication, and the risk of hypoglycemia is higher, especially when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas. Therefore, if hypoglycemic symptoms occur, blood sugar should be checked immediately and appropriate measures should be taken. This medication may cause side effects such as headache, upper respiratory infection, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, nausea, constipation, muscle pain, limb pain, back pain, pruritus, thrombocytopenia, indigestion, dizziness, increased triglycerides, increased low-density lipoprotein, hyperglycemia, weight loss, hypernatremia, and erectile dysfunction. If severe joint pain or skin blistering symptoms occur during treatment, consult a doctor promptly, and if necessary, this medication may be discontinued. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication, and safety and effectiveness have not been established for children under the age of 18. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function; therefore, dosage adjustment and kidney function tests are necessary. In the event of overdose, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment, as this medication can be partially removed by hemodialysis. Finally, this medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications.
