Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes

  • Difficulty in blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as monotherapy for initial treatment and can be combined with other diabetes medications such as Metformin in cases of difficult blood sugar control. Additionally, it can be used as an adjunct if blood sugar control is insufficient with Sulfonylureas, Metformin, Thiazolidinediones, or insulin either alone or in combination. This variety of treatment methods effectively improves blood sugar control for patients.

For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustment may be necessary according to renal function. 1. Precautions

This medication may cause severe allergic reactions after administration, so symptoms such as rashes, hives, or breathing difficulties should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor while taking the medication. This medication can potentially cause acute pancreatitis, a serious pancreatic condition, so patients must inform healthcare providers immediately of any abdominal pain, vomiting, or persistent abdominal discomfort after taking it. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, nor in those who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients. Patients with impaired kidney function may have difficulty excreting the drug, so dosage adjustments or careful use under the guidance of a physician are necessary. When taking this medication, hypoglycemia risk exists; thus, careful monitoring of blood sugar changes is particularly important when used with insulin or Sulfonylureas. If serious joint pain or blistering skin conditions occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a specialist. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended, and safety in pediatric patients has not been adequately confirmed. In elderly patients, kidney function may decline, so regular assessments of kidney function before and during use are important. In the case of overdose, general emergency treatment should be initiated, and blood dialysis may be required for drug removal, hence immediate medical attention should be sought.
