Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with other medications. This helps effectively manage blood sugar levels.
This medication can be administered as monotherapy or in combination with metformin, taken as 50 mg once daily in the morning or as 100 mg divided into two doses of 50 mg each in the morning and evening. When used with metformin or thiazolidinediones, the recommended dosage is 100 mg daily, divided into two doses of 50 mg each in the morning and evening. When used with sulfonylureas, the recommended dosage is 50 mg once daily.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergic reactions, type 1 diabetes, or diabetic ketoacidosis. It should also not be administered to patients with inherited lactose intolerance. Abnormal liver function may occur rarely during treatment, so it is important to undergo regular liver function tests before and during treatment. If symptoms of liver dysfunction occur, consult a doctor immediately, and in severe cases, treatment should be discontinued. This medication does not replace insulin therapy and should be used cautiously in patients with very poor kidney function. Experience regarding its use in heart failure patients is limited, so caution is needed and it is not recommended for severe heart failure patients. If symptoms such as blisters or ulcers appear on the skin during use, inform healthcare providers immediately. There is a risk of acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, seek medical attention immediately. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with other diabetes medications that can cause hypoglycemia, so dose adjustment may be necessary. If symptoms such as dizziness occur, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. Severe joint pain may occur, and if pain is severe, consider discontinuation of the medication. Its safety in pregnant and breastfeeding women has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. There is no need for special dose adjustment in the elderly, and it is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and supportive treatment based on symptoms is required. The medication is not effectively removed by dialysis. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
