Blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered as monotherapy, and in cases where blood sugar control is challenging, it can be combined with metformin, pioglitazone, sulfonylureas, insulin, or DPP-4 inhibitors. It is particularly important to consider the guidance of a specialist when prescribing it for patients with type 2 diabetes who have cardiovascular disease. This medication helps improve blood sugar control and aids in the treatment of diabetes.
The recommended dose for this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and for additional combinations with insulin and other hypoglycemic agents. In patients with good tolerance and needing additional blood sugar control, the dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily. This medication can be taken regardless of meals. The tablets should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember, but do not double the dose in one day.
This medication should not be used by individuals with allergies to its active ingredients. It should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with severely impaired renal function, end-stage renal disease, or those undergoing dialysis should not use this medication because it may not be effective. Since this medication contains lactose, individuals with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance should not take it. Patients with slightly impaired renal function should thoroughly check renal function before administering this medication and adjust the dosage or discontinue it as necessary. Patients with mild to moderate heart failure should use this medication with caution, and it is not recommended for severe heart failure patients. When taken with insulin or insulin secretagogues, there may be a risk of hypoglycemia, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, urinary tract infections, genital infections, increased urination, dehydration, decreased blood pressure, and should be monitored closely for symptoms. Elderly patients or those at risk of fluid loss should be cautious of dehydration and low blood pressure. Serious metabolic abnormalities such as ketoacidosis may occur rarely, so if symptoms like vomiting, abdominal pain, or breathing difficulties appear, seek medical attention immediately. It is advisable not to use this medication during pregnancy, and it is also safe to avoid taking it while breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children under 18 years of age, and it is not used in this population. While no specific toxicity has been reported with overdose, unnecessary use should be avoided, and if an overdose occurs, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Care should be taken to manage any wounds on the feet or surrounding areas, and if there is pain or swelling in the perineal area, consult a doctor immediately. Regularly check renal function, blood pressure, and blood sugar before and after taking this medication, and be cautious of interactions with concurrent medications. Store out of reach of children, and do not transfer to another container.
